Nina Fore Brooks studied music at the U of S.C. and Columbia College, S.C., earning her Masters degree in Music and is a certified Music Instructor. Nina is a member of the American Harp Soc. & NLAPW in Washington D.C.
Nina has performed around the world and has been playing harp for over 25 years as an expert at her art.
A harp is available to use on campus at the center and information on rental or purchasing individual harps is available from teacher with lists of suppliers.

Beginning Guitar with Dr. Kevin McKinney
Learn to play guitar and to read standard notation at the same time! Systematic, time-tested approach makes it easy. No book needed; teacher will provide lesson sheets to download and print. Instructor will be in contact to set up dates and times once you have registered.

Musicianship with Dr Kevin McKinney
Build the ability to recognize and understand basic elements of music; learn to read notation and to “see what you hear, and hear what you see.” You’ll sing from notation, play games that sharpen your sense of rhythm, and learn the language of music. Harmony, part-writing, counterpoint, arranging. Learn how to put different parts together to create a greater whole. Instructor will be in contact to set up dates and times once you have registered.
Brass Instruments with Dr. Kevin McKinney
Improve your playing with better embouchure, technique, reading, efficient practice, and musicianship. Detailed curriculum based on student’s needs and goals. Get better fast! Instructor will be in contact to set up dates and times once you have registered.
Songwriting/Composition with Dr. Kevin McKinney
Learn to write your own songs, or sharpen your existing skills. Create lyrics, chords, beats, or melodies as unique as you are. All skill levels welcome. Instructor will be in contact to set up dates and times once you have registered.
Music Theory I with Dr. Kevin McKinney
Learn the fundamental building blocks of music! Notation of pitch and rhythm, scales, intervals, chords, basic harmony. Instructor will be in contact to set up dates and times once you have registered.
Piano Lessons with Jaston Hawes
Jaston Hawes graduated from the USC/Columbia earning a Performance Certificate in Voice as well as his B.A. in Music Education (K-12). He earned his Masters in Choral Conducting (under the direction of Dr. Larry Wyatt and Dr. Alicia Walker) and served as the assistant Director of the Dutch Fork Choral society). Jaston has acted as the music director for musicals at the AC for the last 3 years and teaches General Music Education for Kershaw County Public Schools. Classes are paid for by the month. The teacher will contact students as to days and times once they have registered. (ages 8 to adult)
Music Classroom protocols for in person lessons
with Sarah Garvin
Sarah Gavin is a violinist of 17 years proficient in Classical, Bluegrass, Irish and Scottish Celtic Fiddle performance and training. She studied at West Virginia University as well as the Music Life and Eastern Shore School of Music. She is not only classically trained, but also trained in a variety of folk music. She has orchestral and chamber experience with an extensive repertoire in all violin/fiddle genres for solo, orchestra and group. She has competition experience in Celtic and Bluegrass and is an experienced teacher of private and group lessons. Sarah’s bachelors in Japanese language and literature from Ohio State University and study abroad in Tokyo, Japan has provided her experience on Japanese traditional stringed instruments.
Come and join us for a long overdue summer showcase. Pick 2-3 songs from Disney or the Broadway stage. You can do songs you have done before or brand new songs. Disney songs are heavily suggested for at least one of your selections! Please be as memorized as you can be and have a karaoke track for the songs you choose. (Don’t pick a song without a karaoke track!) If you are interested please contact me at email@example.com. We want to make sure we don’t have duplicate songs so have backups for you backups! We will perform outside on the Shull Pavilion at the Arts Center Aug. 1st, 2021 at 5pm. Ages - 14+
